Picked up a 1993 Sunfish manufactured by Sunfish Laser Inc. Trailer too :)
Spars, mast, rudder and daggerboard in great sape. Sail is faded and stained. Hull needs to be wet sanded to remove stains.
Wet sanding with 1600 grit.
04 Jun 2014: Took Lady through the car wash then tried some
Iron Out to get rid of mineral stains. It worked great!
I sprayed it on, let it sit for a bit then wet sanded it off with 1600 grit.
Peeled off the chipped up stripe.
Daggerboard cleaned up nice with a coat of varnish.
Added a new bow handle. Keep one screw in so metal backer plate does not fall off.
06 Jun 2014: Added a new bailer.
Intermission: Took a trip to NAS Pensacola and checked out their Sunfish fleet.
Back to our irregularly scheduled program.
Picked up a 60th Anniversary sail from Key Sailing, and it was On Sale for $270. They have more if you need one, different colors too.
I have a dot sprayed to measure 25 feet, good for a Sunfish halyard or sheet.
Tied a bowline knot for the daggerboard retainer line.
Sealed up a split that had already been dowel repaired.
Remember to check for power lines before raising a sail.
Cleaned up some gelcoat chips with a diamond file and filled them with Marine Tex epoxy putty.
Lady has some real nice blocks.
Looks awesome now!
08 Jun 2014: Sold Lady to a Pensacola couple, she has a new 14 year old Skipper now! The Dad wants to get some stripes added before he presents the boat.
20 Jun 2014: Stripes added!
