Lone Star Lakes and Rail Line

 09 Jun 22:

Nearby Lone Star Lakes offer some opportunity for small boating. The lakes were formed from the pits left over from marl mining in the mid 20th Century. The old rail line now serves as access road for the multiple lakes in the area, one of which dumps into Chuckatuck Creek, and from there you can get to the James River, Hampton Roads and the Atlantic. Probably not enough draft for GANNET though, in cas Webb is wondering...

Our new friend Harvey described how as a kid, he would ride in the crane bucket while his Dad dropped dynamite into the pits to dislodge the marl. Good Dad.
