CAPT JOHN SMITH Car Ferry Deck House

25 Sep 24:

1924- The CAPT JOHN SMITH was the first car ferry built to make the James River crossing from Jamestown to Scotland, Surry County. The ferry was built in Battery Park and later in life the deck house was removed and used as a river clubhouse, before being acquired by the Surry County Historical Society and Museum. The Deck House was restored and is on display in Surry, VA at the Museum.

William Fox has steered the restoration since the late 90s, and is gathering info for a book. He also published a very nice book on the James River.

to be continued....
