Isle of Wight County VA Waterways

Isle of Wight County has an extensive maritime history, bordered by the James River to the East, Chuckatuck Creek to the South, and the  Blackwater River on the inland border. Plus we can add in Batten Bay, Lawnes Creek and the Pagan Creek. The focus was to export agriculture, livestock and timber.

The invention of the gasoline motor, farm truck and a four mile bridge across the James took the wind out of most of our maritime activities.
