Tropical Storm Cristobal 06 Jun 20

06 Jun 20:

Tropical Storm Cristobal will brush by to the West, we'll get some rain and gusty winds, forecast up to 50 mmph. So we moved some of the Skipper's Armada around. Pensacola disappeared around 0930.

Skipper's Gorilla cart got pressed into service to rescue the hammock.

Our canoe SCOUT, kayaks SACAGAWEA and Clark are going to bunk with ZIP, WINNIE and MARGARET ROSE.

High tide about 8 inches higher than normal, which puts the lower dock in the water.

We repurposed the old cockpit floor from Skipper's Lugger ONKAHYE, makes the boat trailer a good utility trailer when needed. It hauled river rock, pea gravel, pavers and sod yesterday, and canoe and kayak today.

The Carriage House got an upgrade, paver steps and rock around the perimeter to provide safe footing and improve drainage away from the deck. Looks nice, just in time for Cristobal.

Side project, decreed by the Skipper, get ONKAHYE cleared out of other boat's bits. ONKAHYE was hosting the gaff yawl rig for the canoe, a couple of old life jackets and our Catfish SMEDLEY's sail. We still have 2 spare PFDs, in case some muck abouters or circumnavigators swing by.

Gear bags, courtesy of USMC Boot Camp 1979. They hold spare hats, a first aid kit, spare line and foam cups. I think the bags are made of titanium.

Galley options, and the requisite Aladdin cooler.

Last but not least, when we moved CHIP to get to the old cockpit floor, we heard water sloshing around. Hmmmm, upon further investigation it seems rain water snuck under the cover, I think the mast was too far aft under the cover and kept it propped up too high, allowing rain water to run over the deck and into the cockpit. We sponged out the water, no damage to the cockpit but the floorboards are warped and have mold on them. We will need to use them as patterns to cut new ones if they can't be cleaned up and coaxed back into shape. They got a dose of TILEX, and we'll try to flatten them by parking something heavy on top of them for a few days, like a dolly.
