Charles Lundgren Dutch Ship

 02 Jul 23:

We acquired a painting by our favorite marine artist Charles Lundgren entitled "Typical Dutch Ship 1782." Created in 1982, the painting was featured on a series of commemorative stamps. This time frame is close to when Skipper's Patriot Pirate Pierre Surget was supporting the revolution for America's independence, so we like to think that this painting is of the sly fox. Pierre's wife Katarina was Dutch, with ties to New Amsterdam, so we imagine that the flag of the Netherlands was one of many that Pierre/Peter/Petra/Don Pedro sailed under.

The frame we made from a found item. Our friend Bob owns a vintage shop in our little downtown, and this frame was around an old map. Someone bought the map but did not want the frame, so Bob had the frame set out with a "Free" tag attached. We brought the frame home and recut it to fit the masonite board.

The shelf below is something I made years ago for my little pirate to display some of her prizes, including her Most Improved Kickball trophy. Those were set aside while we got the painting hung.

We wear a lot of nautical shirts or hats and our Doctor once asked, "Is everything in your house nautical?" We answered no, then when we got home and started looking around we figured out, hmmmm, yes it is. Surprise.

Fair winds!

Clark and Skipper
