There were several screwpile lighthouses on the James River, and we have become fascinated with their history. One was the Point of Shoals Light. It lit the way for traffic in the natural river channel, and was later decommissioned when a straight channel was dredged clear of the shoals. (Image credit: wikipedia commons)
We are thinking about taking the shape and incorporating it into a screened deck, placed out in our park. Skipper identified two trees that were good anchors for her hammock, and those trees could become the center post and a leg for the lighthouse. Static and dynamic testing of the hammock is complete.
The lighthouse will be approximately 24 foot diameter. Small green bamboo stakes mark position of the legs.
Our builder was removing his shipping container from the lot next door and happened to ask if we wanted a chandelier from a house he had remodeled. It looks like we can use that as the light for the lighthouse.
