Wheel Deck Hoist Rigging Hardware

 20 Mar 22:

We gathered up all of the rigging and hardware for the Wheel Deck boat hoist, most of it is Wilcox, Crittenden and Company, Inc. bronze halyard blocks, eyestraps and snap shackles and the line is vintage Sunfish sheets. There are two different cleats that are not for Sunfish, but also Wilcox and Crittenden. One is an interesting little jam cleat.

Vintage Sunfish Parts

Made a parts haul a few months back, finally sorted them. There was some hardware dating back to the 1960s in there. It appears every part of the boat has changed since its inception.

Rose"Bud"s deck paint prep

Worked on Bud's deck today to prep for paint. First I removed the bow handle. Take out 3 screws, loosen the 4th, turn handle a bit, put one screw back in to hold internal backer block in place. Otherwise on these older boats the block might drop off into the hull

Removed the halyard block and cleat. Remove one screw at a time , move block, reinstall screw. Taped up in prep for paint

This is the repaired area, it has been sanded and prepped for paint

I took out the old inspection port because it was cracking and yellowed by the sun. Saving the hardware but don't plan to use on the new port

Here is the hardware I removed. Jack's trick is to store all the small hardware in a Folgers' can, keeps it all in one place. And I think it has to be Folgers, no other brand

Test fit of bow handle, it's going to look good. Next step is to tape off the aluminum trim, sand the deck with 220 Sothe paint will stick, wipe down the deck with mineral spirits and get to painting! The deck is going to be Interlux Brightside's Medium Blue.
