Portable On Demand Storage (PODS) Departing!

13 Jul 21:

The last empty PODS container departed the Mid Atlantic Station today! We are 100 percent pleased with the PODS system, the only damage we had was self induced from lack of proper securing and shoring. PODS transport also reduced our time on the road in a UHaul and freed us up to do other tasks associated with the Homeport change. Plus the boats were safely stored for 1-5 months while we TETRISed the rest of our household goods. And we saved a cargo hold full of money, it cost us $1500 to ship just one boat from the NorthEast a few years back, let's see, multiply that times the 12 boats that didn't have trailers.....

Thanks PODS!

Armada Relocation PODS #2

 16 Feb 21:

We loaded PODS #2 with our Penobscot 14 ST. JACQUES, Pelican Icon kayaks SACAGAWEA and CLARK and the parts for the Pascagoula Diamond Bottom Catboat MARGARET ROSE. For this load we built another platform above the boats to hold more boat shop bits.

Armada Relocation PODS #1

 11 Feb 21:

The re-relocation of the Armada from the Gulf to the Atlantic Hampton Roads area has commenced. The first PODS container, PODS 1, departed for Hampton with the Alcort Super Sailfish TRACKER, Alcort Standard Sailfish WINNIE, Alcort wooden Sunfish ZIP and Alcort Catfish SMEDLEY acting as Advance Party. A lot of other Alcort parts that I didn't know we had will travel along. We had planned to load one more Sunfish, MADISON, but I didn't account for the fact that her fiberglass Sunfish hull is taller than the wooden Sunfish hull, CHIP, that we had loaded last time. So we rebooted and loaded some other yard stuff and also loaded the completed parts and lumber for the catboat MARGARET ROSE.

PODS 2 will arrive tomorrow!

PODS Update - WINNIE, Huey, Dewey and Lewie

 01 Feb 21:

Loaded more Boat Works flotsam and jetsam into PODS 1, including the Standard Sailfish WINNIE, our penguins, squirrel, flamingo and other holiday decorations. We can't top load too much gear on ZIP, but she said she didn't mind crew for the haul up to Tidewater.

One more Sunfish to load and a few other light items, then PODS 1 will be ready to depart for the new Atlantic Squadron homeport.

PODS Update - TRACKER and ZIP

 27 Jan 21:

The Super Sailfish TRACKER and 1953 Sunfish ZIP joined SMEDLEY in the PODS container, after the platform was finished.

Moving Part of the Armada with PODS

 26 Jan 21:

The Armada is changing Homeport from Gulf Squadron to Atlantic Squadron. Some of the boats will travel in a PODS container. Some have already been up to the Chesapeake and back once, due to Pandemic intervention. So they are Pros.

Last time we even had SMEDLEY's trailer tongue shortened so the trailer would fit.

Learning Lesson from the last shipment was that I don't tie good knots and some of the boats that I suspended sagged and were damaged. This time I'm building a platform over SMEDLEY with 2x4s and plywood decking.
