Wheel Deck Hoist Rigging Hardware

 20 Mar 22:

We gathered up all of the rigging and hardware for the Wheel Deck boat hoist, most of it is Wilcox, Crittenden and Company, Inc. bronze halyard blocks, eyestraps and snap shackles and the line is vintage Sunfish sheets. There are two different cleats that are not for Sunfish, but also Wilcox and Crittenden. One is an interesting little jam cleat.

Wilcox and Crittenden Bronze Bits

 23 Nov 21:

We bought some bronze, the halyard block and cleat came off of an Alcort Sunfish, so we knew it was made by Wilcox and Crittenden. The pleasant surprise was the other batch that showed up, it was W&C as well. Our plan is to use the bronze on our catboat, the turnbuckle for a forestay, and the jam cleat and block maybe for the gaff rig. Sprayed the turnbuckle with WD40 and it turns freely.

Lewis Bluff Ratty Punt SCUPPERS 28 Jan 21 Oarlocks and Board Stretcher

 28 Jan 21:

Main method of propulsion for the little punt SCUPPERS wil most likely be a punt pole. Secondary will be paddle, and we might try tiny oars. If so, we have some vintage Wilcox and Crittenden removable oar locks that we'd use. We only envision using SCUPPERS in water shallow enough for a punt, so that if we capsize we could just stand up and reboard the PV (Punting Vessel).

Okay we would attach them to the gunwale. Shown below on the hull just for size reference.

I had a dumb plan to rake the bow aft and cut too fast, that made the bow plank very deep. So I brought out the board stretcher and added 6 inches back, shown here stretching the hull.

Wilcox and Crittenden Jam Cleat with Sheave

 17 Dec 20:

Scored these Wilcox and Crittenden jam cleats with sheaves on ebay, thought maybe we could use them on our catboat. Turns out they are very small, might be good for a topping lift, lazy jacks or a jiffy reef.

We haven't started building our Rabl Midge BLUFF RATTY yet, but we did score some nice Wilcox and Crittenden oar locks on ebay.

Wilcox and Crittenden Company 5 Pound Navy Anchor

27 May 19:

Had some fun painting a Wilcox and Crittenden 5 pound Navy anchor. We'll use it as a lunch hook on our Penobscot 14. High visibility so we won't trip on it.

Wilcox and Crittenden Sheet Blocks

21 May 19:

Scored a couple of bronze sheet blocks made by Wilcox and Crittenden, they go to the wooden booms on the early Alcort Sailfish and Sunfish.

Wilcox and Crittenden Co Inc Catalog 1954

02 Mar 19:

A few bits from the 1954 Wiclox and Crittenden Co. Inc catalog. They made the hardware for Alcort sailboats, the Sunfish and Sailfish. We have a lot of the hardware, one of our favorites is the bow handle for the wooden Alcorts. They run about 50 dollars today on the Old New Stock market.

We also like their boat hooks.

Now we know where to get our ice pick holders!

Wilcox and Crittenden Boat Hook, Chocks and Bow Handle

07 Feb 19

Rounded up some more Wilcox and Crittenden hardware for use on our boats. We will make another padook with the galvanized boat hook, it feels like the perfect weight. We love the crusty patina.

The tabbed bow handles fit on the wooden Alcort Standard Sailfish, Super Sailfish and Sunfish. We are losing track of how many boats we have, but I think this is a spare :)

I'm not sure what I was more excited about, the box or the chocks inside. The chocks will go on our little Sorg Runabout WILLOW.

Alcort/AMF Parts

05 Jan 19:

Our buddy Howie worked at Alcort in Waterbury Connecticut from 1960-1978, then he did warranty work for them for another 10 years. He is thinning his stash and we just got a box of goodies from him. Skipper claimed the jacket but she let me try it on :)

Alcort AMF sailboat parts circa 1960-1988.

Horizontal latch plate, horizontal hinge pin and vertical latch plate for the wooden Alcort sailboats, it has screw eyes on the stern end for wood screws that fastened into the oak transom. The 4 inch vertical latch plate is for the wooden Sailfish and Sunfish that have the shorter transoms. The horizontal latch plate on the left was for the fiberglass boats. The 7 inch bolt and wingnut is for the old style rudder on the fiberglass Sunfish with the taller transom.

Vintage Wilcox and Crittenden hardware. The block with the eye screw id for the wooden booms on the early boats.

Evolution of halyard cleats.

Wilcox & Crittenden Box Compass

Picked up this Wilcox and Crittenden box compass a few years back, we hope to use it for some gunkholing.

Sunfish Bits

14 Jun 18:

We picked up a few Sunfish bits, one bit was a vintage mainsheet with the bronze clip on the end. The line and the clip is really nice, but the lines measure around 22 feet, with 25 feet being an optimum length. For our low speed recreational sailing 22 feet is plenty.

The other bit was a bow handle designed for the wooden Alcort boats. The bow handle was made by Wilcox and Crittenden, Alcort's hometown hardware makers. The handle is chrome plated bronze and has the WC mark on the side. The tab on the front was for the wooden Sailfish and Sunfish, it covered the stem and another piece of aluminum quarter round flows down along the stem and keel for 18 inches.
