Benches and Stools

 20 Jun 22:

We scored this stool and bench at a local resale shop. Not sure what the bench was used for based on the same size holes on the side rail, but we like the tool compartment underneath. We'll clean them up and put them to work in the shop.

Nice dovetails on the stool. And methinks people were smaller back then.

Sail Rigger's Bench

12 Jan 19:

Made a rigger's bench, inspired by the bench in The Sailor's Sketchbook by Bruce Bingham, published 1983. Fun little book, lots of ideas for small projects for our yachts :)

I made the bench from white pine, 1x12. It is sturdy and light. I left off the 8 inch cutting board on the starboard end, and extra sacrificial layer that is another thickness, holes for fids and other sail rigger gear, small pegs to hang ditty bags. The port end has small hooks to work as an extra hand. We also upgraded the bench with the shelf, the design only called for a stretcher bar.
