Gaff Rig Sailfish

10 Jun 20:

We were sorting some gear in the Carriage House and thought the canoe's gaff rig would store neatly in our Alcort Standard Sailfish Winnie's mast step....I wonder...

Pascagoula Catboat ROSE 20 Jan 18 Sail Rig Ideas

20 Jan 18:

We have been quizzing our Biloxi buddies, Russ and Buddy, about Gulf Coast catboats. Buddy mentioned a 16 foot cross planked, lapstrake boat designed by Peter Culler and offered to send us some of the plan drawings for us to look at. One thing we are especially interested in is the dimensions to the gaff rig, at 182 square feet it is quite impressive.

Buddy is sending the rest of the plans and maybe that will give us some more ideas on cross plank construction. Thanks to Russ and Buddy for keeping the Gulf Coast boating heritage alive!

Mystery Spars

20 Jul 17:

Scored some spars, looks like they went to a 10-12 foot sailing dinghy or maybe a canoe. Square drive fasteners point to possible Canadian origin.

All bronze fittings: two blocks on the boom, a pintle on the boom and a gudgeon on the mast.
Mast is 9' 6" tall, about 2" diameter. Gudgeon.
Yard is 8’ 10"" long, about 1 1/4" diameter. Leathered jaws. Strange line with ring.
Mast and yard measure approx 12' 6" from boom fitting.
Boom is 8' 8" long, about 1 1/4" diameter. Pintle. 2 blocks.

Is it a gunter rig or gaff rig? Any ideas as to what boat it went to?
