Gaff Rig for Canoe

04 Jun 19:

Skipper found an old photo of a gaff rigged canoe, Seminole Indian, from about 100 years ago, and she thought it would be fun to make the rig and sail for our Grumman 17 SCOUT.

It would also be fun to DIY the rig and sail, so off to Lowes we went to get a few of the needed materials. Can we make a drop cloth sail that will work? We'll find out.

7.20 - 4 1/4 inch carriage bolts (3/16th would be better)
1.24 - 4 Washers
3.36 - 4 Wingnuts
Note, we buy extra hardware, in case we counted wrong or drop something through the deck boards
26.96 - 2 Closet rods, 10 feet (8 would have been long enough)
6.73 - 1x10x4 #2 White pine
Free - Mast, we had one. Otherwise, consider buying an aluminum flagpole
29.68 - 12 x 15 Drop cloth
15.76 - 4 cans Clear Rustoleum
5.38 - Orange spray paint
5.38 - Red spray paint
4.46 - Lagoon Blue spray paint
3.94 - Dark brown spray paint

$110.99 so far

Stay tuned.
