We needed some small cabinets on wheels to fit under a model train layout that we are building, we want them to move so we can get under the layout to access the track wiring. Skipper suggested buying pre made kitchen cabinets like we had done before for another layout and adding a base with casters. She found the 30" Wide x 18" Tall x 12" deep cabinet she liked at Lowes, plus the caster wheels. I added a 3/4 inch marine grade plywood base to the bottom, used wood cleats attached to the inner perimeter to the cabinet bas and screwed the base to the cleats. Painted the unfinished cabinet edges, back and base edge with interior trim paint. Added knobs.
The top of the cabinet will make a nice storage area as well.
We have also used two of the 35 inch kitchen counter cabinets as bases for a 4x8 table, they work great. The cabinets with the pull out drawers get more use than the wide open cabinet with one door, but keep in mind the top drawer will have restricted access.
