Benjamin Mendlowitz photo from the Wooden Boat Calendar.
Photo description by Maynard Bray: "Those in the know who visited her in Bermuda, like Olin Stephens, pronounced her a legend before she was even finished. Finished in this case meaning restored and her legendary status the result of Joe Postich and Wendy Bliss doing such an outstanding job, with only two of them working and giving such care to every aspect of her rebuild for every 25 years. Sadly, the owner's death ended that phase, and the boat came to the States for completion under subsequent ownership and another cast of characters working on her. She reemerged in New England and sailed to Maine in 2021 for the Camden Classics Regatta where Chicane's distinctive three-headsail rig was briefly silhouetted against Mt. Megunticook."
- Chicane - 62' x 12'6" cutter designed by Alfred Mylne and built by A.M. Dickie and Son, Ltd, Bangor, Gwynedd, United Kingdom, 1926
In today's busy and unsettled world, we take a moment, maybe two, to look upon this meta work of art. Beautiful boats, whose hulls have travelled many parts of our planet, connecting people through water and, connecting us through a shared maritime heritage. The wonderful photos by Ben, rich captions by Maynard and stunning design by Sherry and the Noah Publications team. Migwech (thank you) to all who have made this calendar happen for over 40 years and to those who have connected the world for millennia. Huzzah!
