Trailer Parking Shipboard Style

01 Apr 22:

I may have been scarred by years of parking aircraft on specific spots, following lead in lines. Especially important during shipboard ops. And since we like to optimize space usage, I marked out wheel positions and lead in lines in the new HEUER GARAGE for our Sorg Runabout WILLOW. On the ship we got chained as well as chocked.

While the garage is big enough for WILLOW to go straight back, we park her at an angle so we can fit a 14 foot Sunfish on one side and a 12 foot Standard Sailfish on the other. Follow the pink tape and there is room to get WILLOW in and out without moving either of the Alcorts.

We put cones under all of the trailer couplers, to be a visual reminder to mind our shins.

Embarked aboard the USS Belleau Wood LHA-3, WestPac deployment Jan-Jun 1989. Our detachment of HMLA-369 AH-1W Super Cobra are in the foreground, and my little UH-1N Super Huey's nose is poking out 5th in line on the "forward slash."
