We are having a blast learning about both rail and marine transportation in the area. They are gone now, but the Portsmouth VA waterfront used to be dominated by several Seaboard Railroad warehouses. Freight would come and go by rail and boat, as well as being transferred across the Elizabeth River by steam powered box car and passenger ferries.
