In other Honey Do news today, Skipper mentioned that she would like a little bookcase to hold her cookbooks. I think she may have spotted the clear white pine boards that I brought home to make bookcases for our Mariner's Library... In grand Skipper tradition she seized one of the 1x12x8 boards as a prize for the bookcase, she can't help it, it's in her pirate cell memory. JIG and DOLLY were pressed into service, along with yours truly, and we began butchering wood to make the bookcase.
Okay the real story is that I first used some leftover shelving material, particle board, but it caused some Moaning Chair moments when I tried to put in fasteners. Thinking it over, I thought it best to punt, but at least I already had a pattern. Fortunately there was some clear white pine and a few cedar boards in the shop, so Skipper got a choice of pine or cedar for her bookcase. We ended up choosing pine because it will be easier to paint.
Fastened with marine grade silicone bronze bronze wood screws, #10 size with a Frearson head. We predrilled holes with a Fuller combination pilot hole and countersink bit.
We still need to ease the edges on a few of the corners, but the test fit went well.
Now it is Skipper's turn.
It's nice to have a few small Winter projects at Galloping Horse Marine Construction.
