Minwax suggests using steel wool between coats to smooth out any wood grain fuzzies that have lifted after the coating has dried, but we use copper wool instead. Steel wool remnants can rust, especially if a water based finish or paint is used, and leave unsightly rust spots. Ask us how we know. Copper wool won't rust, so for our double paddle I stole some of Skipper's copper wool from under the sink. I'll put it back after I'm done and she'll never know...
