Herreshoff Double Paddle Buildup

 06 Jan 22:

We took SUPER GUMBY to pick up some spruce for the double paddle. 8 feet long 2x4s, not a problem.

L. F. Herreshoff's design. Our paddle will be 8 feet long, but for a twist, we will keep the blades in the same plane.

We used the table saw to make 1 1/4 square stock, for the paddle shaft and blades.

Blade bits, 20 inches long.

We are getting ready to glue everything up, but hold on. We found out later that we could have cut the concave shape on the blade pieces and shaft BEFORE we glued everything together. Later in this broadcast we end up cutting the blad apart in order to cut the shape. Other options would be to use a variety of hand or power tools to cut the concave shape on the blade, but that could be a lot more scraping and sanding.

We used TotalBoat THIXO Wood to glue the pieces together.

Our clamps are named for family and friends, to remind us of them while we are messing about in the shop.

My clamp took the day off!

Stay tuned.
