We need a few more inches clearance between our Penobscot and the tow vehicle hatch, one suggestion we received was to buy a hitch extender. We looked at them and as best we could tell they were meant to be used with lightweight racks for bikes, skis, etc...But that got us on the trail to look for a longer towbar. We ordered this drawbar, it appears to be at least 4 inches longer than our current towbar, and is rated for 6000 pounds, well beyond the town vehicle's 3500 pound rating.
It's also important to check that all components of the hitch system are rated for at least the towing weight of the vehicle.
